Calves as beauty criterion
Nice legs are an important criterion for the aesthetics of woman’s body and man’s body. Based on statistical studies, involving criteria beauty criteria, sometimes the legs come first in the ranking between all the elements that determine it.
Calves with anatomical imbalances
Often happens calves are hypotrophic, i.e. not having the correct volume, relative to the rest of the body. This may be due to congenital predisposition of the individual, i.e. generally in the structure of the body, or sometimes in diseases that have been previously created atrophy in one or both legs.
Calve’s plastic surgery
The most basic method for correcting the calf is the use of silicone implants. Besides this method, of course, there are other less used methods of increasing the calf using fat or hyaluronic acid.
Regarding the use of silicone implants, should be clear that there are special implants for the calves, depending on the existing problem and the volume of the desired correction. The implants are elongated and their surface is smooth. They look like smooth implants, used in breast augmentation, but their shape is completely different. It is highly resistant to pressure.

Before the calf augmentation operation
The main issue is the full and honest information given from the plastic surgeon about the process and the expectations. Should not have been aspirin consumption ten days before the procedure. Alcohol drinking should be avoided two days prior the procedure.
About the calf augmentation procedure
Calf augmentation should be taking place in a hospital. Some kind of anaesthesia, which may be general or epidural anesthesia, is required.
There are two options, regarding the area to be filled. One is the posterior-medial part of calf and the second location is in the rear-out part of it. This is necessary because the gastrocnemius muscle, who is giving volume to the shank, has two parts, which are located in those two areas. Our goal is to emulate the volume of the gastrocnemius muscle, which is why implants are placed in one of these two sites. It may be needed to put an implant on one side or the other, or sometimes to join two implants simultaneously. This depends on the elasticity of the tissue and the size of the volume of the area. Sometimes it is necessary to place a certain type of implant in one leg and a different shape or size to the other in order to maintain the symmetry of the legs.
The incision to enter the implants is made in the back of the knee, just at the point where the crimp is. The position of the cut is such that the scar is almost invisible. Through this incision the plastic surgeon creates a pocket in the shank.
The duration of the procedure is about one hour and the person can leave the hospital the same afternoon.
After the procedure
There is not much discomfort in this region after calf augmentation. If there is some grade of pain, it could be treated easily with painkillers.
A swelling is expected in the coming days.
The abstinence time from work basically depends on the type of work. A work, in which walking and standing is necessary, needs more days relative to a sedentary job, where one may return even two to three days after surgery.
The effect of growth of the calf is permanent, i.e. lasts for the whole life. The final image after calf augmentation will come in a few months, when swelling has completely subsided. Implants can be easily removed if desired. Generally, the person who has undergone this process has a high degree of satisfaction because the problem has been permanently resolved.
